Junk-Food Art, A Methode of Art and Creation Development

Prolog
Vision is the most fundamental in creation of art, when the artist tries to expresse his idea from the event of day life. What will be presented in artwork? In the same the same time the art work is there are expectations.
Starting in this point de vue, I think that all forms, the lines, and every elements in art, colour, space, balance, theme and metafor, in visual art, normally we find the spirit of interieor, ideas and spirituality.

Like Einstein, when he tries to make a nuclear, the formulas and ingredients must be ready. It means that the resource must be complete, and all elements and components for making a boom, like technology and skill, Methode and technique, are very important things. This is related with tallens, knowledge and perspective pragmatic, like social, economy, politics and culture. Like Aristotle, the artist build the world with wisdom, but very visual. Artist must be a rich person but in ideal concept, experiences, la vie interieur, strong in methodology and use commonsense in a good way.
Like a bussiness man, the artist some time must know very well about market. The market is like a field of fighting; therefore, artist must be ready to fight with any body. As we know that, the artist production was sold in Gallery, free market, etc for gaining many dollars. It means, paintings is correlated with the market.
What the meaning of those explanations, firstly we find that the life of artist seemly deep on the market, the hegemony of curators, and sometimes surrender with the gallery decision. These situations operate the law of market, demand and supply. In other word we are can not avoid from the game of market, and be fine peacefully with it and think the capitalism is friend..
Finally, market is now hegemony our life one hand and in the other hand market learn us for fights, and learn us for not against the market. Market is emerge anywhere, supermarket, Indomarket, hypermarket, etc.


JUNK-FOOD ART
The phenomena and market law, show us that in front of our face is the junk-food phenomenon. The junk-food spread to the everyday life, like laundry, internet, hand-phone, digitalized, make the function of man be eliminated for pragmatic need.
In visual art contemporary, the same plague going to the visual world. The Junk-food means digitalized is choice like multimedia technique. I say this is all right choice.
Why I say that. In my opinion, because the cultural dynamic going to the profane life. The spirituality values and the life norms goes to the global life style and cultural homogenization.
This situation, make the artist must be adopted to the new media and contemporary spirit. In other word, the visual art change the technique and the old ideology of visual art, to the new media.
I think the new media and the new ideology are the characteristic of contemporary art. So, new technology like digitalization, the use of printing, LCD, spray system, and various of materials, are used in this new era. The old technique is step by step leaved and the new ideology and technique em erge.
This is according to the dynamic and development of contemporary life, is pragmatic, profane, fast and instant. In art as we know that, the pragmatic means there are minimalization of space and form, worship satiric vision, dramatic and extreme for describes the fact of everyday life.
Finally, we propose the question, what is art contemporary? The answer is any thing to do. Do for society, do for art itself, do for humanism, do for market and so nothing to do. But I notice that the element vital of art contemporary is reductionism and the grand of idea and size. It means, like the development of the life, minimalism of car and house but grandiose of space of market, become supermarket, hypermarket.
In visual art, minimalism of form, pattern, figure and ideas, and grandiose of canvas size, simplicity of ideas, this is called art contemporary. I make formula of it, with the three S, spontaneous, spot and super. So, it means spontaneous or instant in technique, spot in visual and super in ideas and size. I called as “Junk-food Art.”

Epilog
I believe that is just mode or trend provisional. But when this is finished? Like booming of the world economy and the rupture of capitalism, the Junk-food Art has its own life.
My stand in this contemporary era, I just follow the word of our ancestor, ajur-ajer (Javanese philosophy: means flexible and adaptable), without pawn of ideas, prisoner of honesty but consistence in the choice of ideology for art production. “Don’t be stopped learning by doing.”

Visi menjadi sangat fundamental ketika perupa (artis) berhadapan dengan kehidupan masyarakat. Ingin mewujudkan apa dengan karya seni, termasuk cita-cita dan ekspektasi yang ingin dicapainya. Berangkat dari titik tolak inilah, saya mulai berpikir bahwa setiap garis dan bentuk, setiap warna dan bidang, setiap tema dan metafor atas visual art di dalamnya adalah spirit, gagasan dan spiritualitas diri.
Perupa tak ubahnya seperti Einstein ketika meramu formula menjadi bom nuklir. Ia berhadapan dengan bahan, dengan teknologi, dengan formula (konsep dan ideologi), dengan kemasan (bentuk, visual), dan aspek-aspek yang bersifat pragmatik (sosial, ekonomi, politik dan budaya). Perupa juga seperti halnya filsuf, yang membangun dunia lewat kebijakan, pengalaman dan pembatinan serta metodologi dan akal sehat.
Perupa tak ubahnya seperti Pemulung, yang memungut berbagai sampah kehidupan untuk kepentingan sesuap nasi. Apakah hasilnya dijual langsung kepada penadah (kolekdol) atau lewat balai lelang, bukan persoalan penting. Bagi pemulung, yang utama adalah mendulang rupiah dan dollar setinggi-tingginya. Maka tak heran, pasar menjadi perhitungan yang tak bisa dianggap ringan.
Demikian pula kehidupan seniman, ketergantungan terhadap pasar, ketertundukan terhadap kaum kurator, dan menyerah terhadap keputusan gallery serta para pengijon, berlakulah hukum demmand and supplay, artinya kita dididik atau dipaksa oleh keadaan untuk menjadi kolaborator pasar, selalu berdamai dengan idealisme serta bersahabat dengan kapitalisme.
Pasar telah menghegemony kehidupan. Pasar mengajarkan untuk berjuang, dan pasar telah memaksa untuk tidak melawan. Akhirnya, pasar telah menjadi panglima, mengalahkan politik dan tradisi adiluhung manapun juga. Hal ini ditandai dengan munculnya berbagai bentuk pasar-pasar, Indo-pasar, Super-pasar, Hyper-pasar, Alfa-pasar, Pasar Rakyat, dll.

JUNK-FOOD ART
Fenomena dan hukum pasar ditandai pula dengan lahirnya makanan cepat saji (junk-food), yang merambah ke dalam sisi kehidupan lain, dengan hadirnya laundry, warung pesan-antar, sampai digitalisasi, internet dan handphone. Artinya, fungsi-fungsi manusia menjadi teralenasi ke dalam bentuk pragmatis.
Demikian pula, dalam visua-art kontemporer, wabah yang sama telah melanda dunia seni rupa kita. Junk-food Art dan digitalisasi merupakan pilihan yang tak bisa dihindarkan lagi. Dan sah-sah saja.
Hal ini disebabkan oleh dinamika kebudayaan yang mengarah kepada profanisasi (wadagisasi) nilai spiritual dan norma-norma kehidupan yang mengarah pada pola hidup universalisasi global (cultural homogenization). Dalam situasi seperti ini, yang terpenting dalam visual art bukan pada tekniknya tetapi pada ideologi dan visualnya.
Mengapa teknik menjadi perlahan-lahan ditinggalkan, selain telah digantikan dengan teknologi, digitalisasi, printing, teknik dikalahkan oleh visualisasi dan ideologi yang dibawakan. Hal ini sejalan dengan perkembangan dinamika strategis kehidupan kontemporer yang praktis, minimalisasi ruang dan wujud, memuja cara-cara satirik dan dramatis untuk melukiskan fakta-fakta sehari-hari.
Keindahan kontemporer adalah keindahan pasar. Jadi, seperti perkembangan mall-mall dan hypermarket suyang serba super besar dan wah-wah, maka dalam seni lukis, kecenderungan visual artnya juga mengikuti pasar, yaitu ukuran-ukuran kanvas menjadi gigantes (super besar dan gedhe-2an), karena semakin gedhe (hyper-size) semakin wah dan dihargai.
Pada akhirnya, seni kontemporer mengandung formula 3 S (spontan, spot dan super). Spontan dalam teknik, Spot dalam visualnya, dan Super dalam ide dan ukuran. Iniah yang saya sebut sebagai “Junk-food Art.”

Epilog
Sampai kapan mode atau trend ini berlangsung? Sama seperti booming Jenmani, Gelombang cinta atau seperti kapitalisme yang mengalami keruntuhan, Junk-Food Art juga punya masa dan periodenya.
Sebagai perupa, sikap saya nurut apa kata Nenek Moyang, ajur-ajer dalam hiruk-pikuk pasar, tanpa harus menggadaikan diri dan memasung idealisme, tetap konsisten (istiqomah) dengan ideologi yang dipilih, serta membangun jaringan global dan tak pernah berhenti belajar.
